  • Standardized Patient Training Workshop on 1 May 2017

    Are you interested to be a part of our team of standardized patients? A standardized patient/ simulated patient [SP] is an individual who is trained to act as a real patient in order to simulate a set of symptoms/ problems. We are looking for individuals to be a part of our standardized patient team. There are no particular qualifications to become an SP. We require people from all walks of life, across the adult age ranges and from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. We will provide training. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to 1- Get introduced to the standardized patient program at MBRU. 2- Understand the concept of simulation in healthcare 3- Understand the importance of their role as standardized patients in medical education. 4- Recognize the attributes which makes a standardized patient more effective in supporting participant learning. 5- Demonstrate role play as standardized patient For more information, please contact simulation@mbru.ac.ae .     This American Heart Association course is designed to provide the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to deliver a high quality Basic Life support to victims in need. This Course is designed for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in and out- patient settings. The participants includes nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, and students in a healthcare program at a university/college, physical therapists, occupational therapist, behavioural therapist, speech therapist. By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies Provide CPR to victims of all ages Use an AED effectively Relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner Participants must register and collect the BLS Student Manual at least 2 weeks before the course.   • Crisis Resource Management in Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (PSA) Program 9 May 2017

    The course will be delivered using a multimodal approach with interactive workshops, clinical skill stations and human patient simulation scenarios. • Conscious sedation – definition, overview and current recommendations (when you can and when you shouldn’t) • Problems and complications of conscious sedation (what can go wrong and how to avoid them) • Airway assessment and management (how to spot a difficult airway and how to perform basic airway management) • Pharmacological aspects of conscious sedation (common medications and antagonists used) • Communication strategies during clinical emergencies (SBAR and other tools) • Clinical scenarios of clinical complications during conscious sedation (safe, low-risk ways to practice dealing with problems encountered during conscious sedation) . Applications will only be accepted from clinical staff working in procedural sedation services. Attendance is closed 10 minutes after advertised course commencement time.     Major depressive disorder is one of the most prevalent causes of disability in the world. It is typified by recurring periods of sadness, loss of interest, poor concentration and feelings of worthlessness.. According to WHO (World Health Organization), depression is currently fourth among the top 10 leading causes of the global burden of disease; it is predicted that by the year 2020, depression will be ranked second. Aim: To gain a detailed understanding of management of depression Objectives: At the end of the course, the participants will be able to: • Demonstrate mental status examination • Identify the clinical features of depression • Recognize treatment modalities for depression • Demonstrate focused history taking from a depressed patient Target Audience: • General Practitioners, Nurses, Behavioural Therapists • Students – Medical, Nursing, Behavioural Science It is assumed that all participants will have basic knowledge of the nature of mental health.
